I got here! Things went somewhat smooth but of course there are stories to tell. The first one is pretty simple: Boston is beautiful! I recommend everyone to come here. The other stories follows.

Catching the flight to New York: My father was nice enough to drive me to Flesland. He’s a good dad. And I had one hour 30 minutes before the flight to crack time. Not to mention that the flight didn’t take of before 30 minutes too late but SAS hauled arse and when I expected to see the end of southern Norway I saw the shores of Denmark. Neat.

Shortly thereafter I landed in Copenhagen. But I only had 30 minutes before take-off and the Newark flight was on the other side of the terminal so a good sprint was in order. I made the flight though, pretty sweaty. Half of my luggage didn’t. The one suitcase that had all my clothes got lost in Copenhagen. Ah well.

US Customs is either very cool or very… well… challenging. I got the latter. I noticed when the offices started a verbal fight with the lady in front of me, using 15 minutes. When it finally was my turn, he asks: “what’s your problem?” instead of saying “welcome to USA!” But I met that kind before. I said “nothing I hope” and gave him all my papers, nodded and smiled, and whenever he gave me a “lesson” I simply answered. “Yep, you’re right. I should have thought about that.”, “No, I’m not very smart for an MIT student.”, “yes, we Internationals should learn the language better” and so forth.

Arriving Boston: Arriving Boston was great. I got to a nice hotel (Boston Park Plaza Hotel, highly recommended). I didn’t go to bed immediately but managed to do some last minute shopping. I bought an expensive NE Patriots T shirt at the airport for something to wear for the day after. I later found an open store in Boston and bought myself some shoes and socks so I could feel a bit normal navigating through Boston.

Today Thursday the task of the day was to get to my new apartment. Before that I got a chance to check out the Prudential tower skywalk. Simply walking around at 50th floor and checking out the view. Neat.

Later I got picked up by the housing agent we used to get the place. She drove me to Cambridge and showed me around a bit. Cool place, I like i already.

First day’s been good and eventful. Tomorrow I meet up at MIT to say I’m here and show them my papers so they can finally register me into the school. That way I get access to all the funny stuff around campus. I’ll check back after that.

I do miss my wife, Elin, though. She should have been with me but she knows she’s always on my mind and I promise dearly that this is the last time I leave her back for anything. Next time I travel somewhere I make sure she’s the first thing I pack :-)
